2013: The Year of Focus!

Happy 2 weeks into the New Year!  Are you still fired up about 2013?  :)  I hope you had some time to relax and enjoy fun times with friends and family!  We had a completely awesome holiday and I'm feeling so grateful and blessed.

I always think it's so fun, and also so important, to take a look back through the year and think about the steps you've taken in your life, the things you've made it through, the things you've accomplished, and all the amazing blessings you've received!  Wow!  2012 was quite an amazing year for us!

It's funny to think of where we were a year ago.  There were so many question marks!  Where are we going to live?  What school will Allison go to?  What will her teacher be like?  Is she ready?  Am I ready?  How are our schedules going to come together so we can work when we need to but still be home with the kids?  How is this going to happen?  How is that going to work out?  When will these things fall into place?

If you've been reading along, you know how the "where will we live?" question worked out!  For a refresher, or if you want to know the whole story, click here.

Our home!

As ALWAYS, it all worked out.  What was different this time as we headed into the unknown, was how I handled  the stressful situations that popped up through it all.  I ALLOWED a lot more ease to flow into my life.  When I felt the stress rise, I had a greater consciousness of it, a deeper awareness, and because of that awareness, I was able to shift to a better place.  Knowing this and practicing this has helped me tremendously.  It's awesome!  It's so freeing!  And because of this new freedom, I've opened all kinds of doors in my life!

As you may know, I have 7 more months in my thirties and I want to make some big dreams come true this year!!  So this year, 2013 is my year of FOCUS!

As a mom, my attention gets pulled in a million directions and sometimes I need to let that happen because that's just life with's busy!  :)  But since there are specific things that I want to create in my life this year, I'm planning to spend focused time on them everyday.  I know that if I write them down in my journal in January, I might not read them again til next January (if I even do that)  and then I'll say, oh ya, that's right, I wanted to learn how to water ski this year, I totally forgot!  Oops!  Maybe I should add it to my list of things to do in 2014!  Does this sound familiar to anyone?  :)

So this year, I'm putting my goals in front of me everyday, so I can focus on them.  I'm putting them on my vision board, my phone, on affirmation cards, my calendar, in my gratitude journal, my car, my computer, any place where I can be reminded of them everyday.  This way, it keeps me conscious of what I'm trying to create in my life and that inspires me to take action.

I have 5 things that I want to focus on this year and I've been thinking of them as my "BEFTY" goals.

Business:  I'm so so excited to grow my coaching business!  I've started working with clients and it's been phenomenal!  I love to hear people's stories and love being able to help!  I could talk about this kind of stuff all day and  I'm currently looking for a location to have retreats/circles/classes/workshops for women.

I have a lot of things that I want to accomplish and at the same time, I want to keep things in perspective and enjoy the ride rather than get caught up in making too many things happen at once and being too busy.  Which leads me to my next focus...

Ease:  The idea of making things easier on myself was something I'd been hearing about for a long time, but I offered so much resistance to it at first.  It was really hard for me to do.  I felt like if I let things be easy it meant that I was being lazy or that I wasn't doing enough or that I was trying to take "the easy way out."  What I've learned over time is that when I'm doing my best and it still feels like too much, it's time to let things be easier.  I AM enough.  When I don't feel like I'm enough, that's telling me that I'm making things too hard in some way, shape, or form and it's time to allow it to be easier.  Every time I do this, and I truly mean every. single.'s like things instantaneously get better!  I believe allowing ease into your life can help everyone and I plan to talk a lot more about this in future posts!  :)

Friends:  It's been two years since we've moved and I really miss our friends up north!  I plan to take more time this year to be in contact with my friends and let them know how much I love them and miss them!  Thank goodness for  facebook!  It helps me stay current and connected with my old friends even though we haven't seen each other in so long!  I'm also planning to make more time for new friends.  We've met so many great new people, especially since Allison started school and I want to hang out with them more!

What a super fun wedding!

Travel:  Last year I starting putting pictures of Brad and I traveling on my vision board.  I miss vacations.  I miss camping.  I miss beaches.  I miss hotels and exploring!  This year I see us traveling all over Michigan visiting my extended family, Brad's family, and our friends.  I see us walking along the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan and going to some of our old favorite places like Buddy's pizza and Bubba's in Traverse City!  I see a stop in Nashville for a visit with my friend Kim and her family, and maybe we'll get to see my friend Tracie and her family there, too!   It's nice how my "friends" goal and "travel" goal will tie in to each other!

I want more of this in 2013!

Yoga:  I've been practicing yoga for about 15 years and this year I want to take it to the next level.  Or maybe the next next level!  I want to be able to do things like this...

advanced camel pose / ustrasana

dancers pose / natarajasana

and this...

forearm stand / pincha mayurasana

So this year I plan to do yoga daily and attend classes 3+ times a week.  I'm scheduling in 3 classes and will go spontaneously whenever I can!

So there it is, my year of focus is underway!  I'll be sharing my tools, strategies, tips, and progress with you along the way!  Also, I just wanted to take a moment and say thanks to you!  Thanks for reading, thanks for commenting, thanks for reaching out to me, and thanks for sharing this journey with me!  Thanks for being here for me as I try new things, take new risks, and find my voice as a writer.  I hope the things I share help you and/or inspire you to create your own awesome fantastical beautiful life!

Love to you!
